Education Committee Meeting

The Education Committee is under the Community Development Division.  It advocates for quality education and workforce development in the public school system as well as Fletcher Technical Community College and Nicholls State University.

2018 Tasks for Education Committee

1. Work with TPSD, Fletcher, and Nicholls to assist in developing clearer pathways for the Jump Start Program.
2. Have quarterly meetings partnering with TPSD, LUMCON, Fletcher, and Nicholls.
3. Partner with LUMCON to find ways we can assist with the new Industrial Maritime Education Complex.
4. Develop a formalized process to facilitate Chamber businesses using internships from Nicholls and Fletcher.
5. Have conversations with business and industry related to apprenticeships.
6. Create a set of expectations from the business community for the K-12 schools that includes the establishment of a Master Plan.
7. Educate members on the public-school grading system and monitor underachieving schools. 
8. Connect with the new executive director and continue to develop relationship and synergies with TFAE.  
9. Review schools annually to see if the committee needs to assist/support a school that is underperforming.
10. Alternative educations settings for children – Look at the possibility of an alternative educational school or charter school in Terrebonne Parish.
